The 2011 flood on the Missouri River was devastating.  The following states were affected by the flooding:  South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri.  Many people lost their homes, cabins, and businesses.  It was a very difficult summer for a lot of people.

People tried to protect their homes by using sandbags, rocks, and build dirt barriers.  Many had to empty their homes of furniture.  Along the Missouri River, people used a total of 14 million sand bags, 2,600 rolls of plastic, and 44 pumps. 

It was so tempting to go on the river, but it was unsafe.   The water levels were so high and the current was so strong.  It was also unsafe because boat traffic would have caused more waves and that would only create more problems.  There was also a lot of floating debris in the river like logs, branches, and sometimes whole trailers that washed off shore. 

Finally, in September the river opened back up.   People say that this flood won’t happen for five hundred more years.  Let’s hope it never does! 

       There are a lot of cancers and diseases involved with smoking as: lung cancer, gum disease, rotten teeth, and much more. Over 443,000 people die a year in the United States from smoking related illnesses. The worldwide status is over 6,000,000 people die a year. If you smoke in your house and you have a family you could kill them. The things that make a cigarette real bad are the chemicals, because that is all it is. There are about 4,000 chemicals in a single cigarette.

       There is a new kind of cigarette. It is called an electronic cigarette (also known as the e-cigarette). There's still smoke, but it doesn't hurt you. It's a vapor-like smoke. An

e-cigarette does not have chemicals such as tobacco, tar, or carbon, but it does have nicotine. If you smoke an electronic cigarette you won't get any cancers or diseases from smoking. An e-cigarette is basically a real cigarette, but healthier.
